A week of vacation from my vacation:

Susan had booked an all-inclusive resort hotel on a fairly secluded area on the Pacific coast. Her flight from Denver to Miami, and then into Liberia, Costa Rica, would arrive about 8 PM. I had arrived a couple of days earlier in Liberia, staying at a Best Western in town, until the reservation at the resort. This allowed me time to figure out the logistics of getting Susan from the airport to the hotel that didn't involve her riding the motorcycle, and certainly not in the dark.

On the day that Susan was arriving, I could check into the all-inclusive resort at 3 PM, but it was on the Pacific about 50 minutes west of the airport. She wanted me to meet her at the airport, which is what I wanted to do also.

But if I checked in at 3, I would need to get back to the airport, and then get both of us back to the resort. A shuttle ride was $70 per person each way. And that was if I booked the rides 24 hours in advance. Taxis were available, but I figured they would be more expensive yet.

I took a practice run from my hotel to the airport, and then to the resort. It was definitely not a road I would want to travel at night on a motorcycle, even if I was following Susan in a shuttle or a taxi.

So I decided to rent a car, and leave the motorcycle at the car rental until the next day, when Susan and I could return and she could drive the car, and I could ride the motorcycle back to the resort. But the car rental agency wouldn't let me leave the motorcycle there overnight. And I certainly wasn't going to leave it outside their locked gates, unsecured and unguarded.

Finally, the car rental folks said they would deliver the car to the resort, and so they did, while I followed with the motorcycle.

With the motorcycle safely at the resort, I was able to drive back to the airport and wait for Susan's flight later that evening. It was wonderful to see her after being gone almost 2 months!

For a week, we ate, drank, sunbathed, took dips in the pool, walked on the beach, and repeated it all the next day.

We did manage to drive to a beach town north of there one day,
and one morning we went zip-lining at an adventure park. It is Costa Rica's longest and best. They also had an animal exhibit of the native fauna.

Once, we saw a troop of wild monkeys in the trees, just outside of the resort. Also, this guy

wandered into the bar one day. He heard it was all-inclusive, I imagine...

Eventually, Susan had to go back to single degree weather in Colorado, and I had to press on as well. More ocean views for me.
